Personal Search Engine

TagSeach automatically scans your files (and websites that you choose), and gives you a lightning fast search for all your data. Organise your files how you like, and TagSearch will automatically detect categories and search terms.

TagSearch started out as a source code index tool, designed to allow powerful and flexible searches through code. It proved to be so useful that I extended it to other files and even websites.

To use

Run tagserver to start the database

tagserver.exe

then import some files using tagscan

tagscan.exe c:\users

We all have a lot of data now. Songs, pictures, ebooks, photos from our camera, our phones and that our friends send us. We have notes files full of addresses, lists, journals and snippets of information that we have tucked away for later. And almost all of it is unmanaged.

If you are very disciplined, you can use a tool like EverNote or its competitors. But that assumes that you want to spend time cataloging every single pice of information, and all your pictures and songs.

There are specialised programs for some media types. Itunes does an ok job for music, picassa for pictures, and so on.

Or you can upload everything to a cloud service, which works great, so long as you have a good net connection and the company doesn't go out of business.

Or you can keep it all on your own machine, and let TagSearch take care of it all.
